THE COURSE

Set within mature forests of pine and silver birch upon ancient, stepped banks of the majestic River Dee, Banchory Golf Club has been welcoming members and visitors with its renowned hospitality for well over a century. The nearby foothills of the Grampian mountains feed the river which gently strokes the course on its path past Braemar and Royal Deeside, eventually reaching the sea nineteen miles away in Aberdeen.

The perfect venue for an outing, this for par-69 course of just under 5900 yards features three par-5s and a tantalising number of par-3s (six), so it’s got everything to test the higher handicapper as well as the low. Those par-3s on their own provide a tantalising test for members with an average of bogey being scored off the yellows, so any visiting group is assured of plenty of fun.

Winding its way through the forest, the fairways lift and drop the player between the course’s two levels, navigating the wide river bank and flipping the direction of play back and forth. Any offering of help from a breeze whistling down the valley is soon snatched away again. Explosions of coloured azalea and rhododendron form a backdrop in the season, and it’s hard not to pause and reflect on how beautiful a course this is.

After your golf, take some time to experience the warm welcome in our uniquely octagonal Clubhouse, and the historical old round mill now used by the well-stocked Professional’s Shop.

This royal gem sits right at the heart of a landscape brimming with majestic scenery, and proves that course length certainly plays second to providing the visiting golfer with memorable and surprising challenges. We look forward to welcoming you to Banchory Golf Club.
